Yesterday, I had a choir lesson with the SCCSJ Symphony Choir. With my heart full of determination to achieve mini victories every week, our lesson yesterday went really well. When I was a younger music teacher, I used to feel anxious before every lesson because I wasn't sure about my lesson plan. I would always ask myself, 'What should I teach today?' I was trying to be engaging, so my training would often jump from one thing to another before a skill was fully developed in a student. I also realized that other aspects of life could impact my performance as a coach, and I recognized my 'nervous pattern' once again. Therefore, I revised my teaching journal, which serves as a reminder to myself:
As we transition from a unison choir to a part choir, I have adjusted my strategy slightly to accommodate this upgrading process. It's incredibly exciting to hear the progress in the choir's sound.
I genuinely hope that all of my choir and solo students recognize that even small changes can lead to massive improvements. It's important to maintain these changes, even if they may not seem significant or something they shouldn't be too 'fussy' about.
